|Option 2 - Fly into Sydney
The Sydney Airport (airport code SYD) is approximately 9.5 hours south of Gold Coast. Taking a domestic flight to Gold Coast (airport code OOL) is the best option and takes about 3.5 hours. Make sure to allow enough time to exit your flight, collect your luggage, clear customs and make your way over to the Domestic Flight Terminal to board your flight.
Please note that in most cases of transfer from the International Terminal to the Domestic Terminal, you will need to take a bus or train that costs AU $5.50 one way, per person. You will need to have Australian currency available prior to boarding.

What to tell customs agents
When asked your reason for visiting, keep your answer simple and truthful:
"I am attending a conference at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre."
Saying that you are "working in Australia" could raise further questions about your visa status, complicating customs procedures. In most cases, you will clear customs at your point of entry in Australia.
Attendees may also want to carry copies of their conference confirmation, letter of invitation and/or other documentation about the conference if further questions should arise.
Bringing children into Gold Coast
Customs officers looking for missing children may ask questions about the children traveling with you. If you plan on traveling with children, special paperwork may be required. Please contact your local Australian Embassy or consulate for more information.
